Internet of Things devices for the home are becoming extremely popular, but Apple HomeKit, well, isn’t. The iPhone-maker’s platform for controlling the home hasn’t exactly set the world on fire. Slowly but surely, however, device manufacturers are starting to embrace it.
Today, Logitech announces that one of its existing home devices, the Circle 2 Wired security camera, is getting Apple HomeKit compatibility; the wireless variant is not supported at this time. This will allow you to interact with the wired camera using Apple’s Home app. It also means Siri support — a huge convenience.
“With the Logitech Circle 2, we want your camera experience to be as seamless as possible. And, knowing many of you are Apple HomeKit users, we knew compatibility with HomeKit was essential. So, today, we’re happy to announce that the Logitech Circle 2 Wired security camera and mounts now work with Apple HomeKit,” says Logitech.
The manufacturer also says, “New and existing Circle 2 Wired owners can all take advantage of this new HomeKit integration starting today. Logitech Circle 2 Wired cameras and select accessories will be available in Apple stores and Apple.com throughout the U.S. and Europe beginning in October.”
It lists the following benefits:
- Circle 2 and HomeKit gives you access to your camera’s live stream from the Home app on your iPhone, iPad or Apple Watch, at home when you’re on the same WiFi network or remotely if you have an Apple TV or iPad set up as a home hub.
- Ask Siri to show you the camera’s live feed with a simple command like, “Hey Siri, show me the front door camera.”
- Stay informed while you’re away by receiving rich notifications on your iPhone or iPad lock screen or Apple Watch for Circle 2 activity.
- You can also use Circle 2’s motion sensor to trigger home automation experiences such as turning the lights on when motion is detected, great for deterring unwanted visitors while you’re away.
New buyers of the Circle 2 Wired will be prompted to enable HomeKit support on initial setup. If you are an existing user, you can still take advantage, and Logitech has provided detailed instructions on how to do so here.
