Wink, the longtime struggling smart home company that was recently acquired by will.i.am back in July, is getting some new functionality today in the form of integration with Sonos’ line of connected speakers.
Wink users can add basically any Sonos speaker to their Wink Hub 2 and control it through Wink’s smart home app, just like you’d add a new light bulb or thermostat to the system. Other smart home systems like Samsung’s SmartThings have supported the feature since 2014, so Wink is behind the curve here.
You can also tie in Sonos gear to the rest of your preset smart home automations, too. So, if you want, will.i.am classics like “Scream & Shout (feat. Britney Spears)” can greet you when your Wink-connected motion detector sees you come through the door, or have the soothing strains of #willpower lull you to sleep as part of your bedtime preset. Presumably you can play other, non-will.i.am music also, but I doubt will.i.am bought a smart home company for you to jam to the Red Hot Chili Peppers.
Wink’s Sonos integration should be available now.
